As a new or expecting parent, you have a lot of decisions to make — including choosing your child’s healthcare providers and creating a labor and delivery plan. Regional Medical Center of San Jose makes this exciting chapter in your life easier by offering informative and easy-to-schedule childbirth and infant care classes on site.

Regional Medical Center of San Jose Joins the Canopy Health Alliance

To better serve Santa Clara County, Regional Medical Center of San Jose joined the Canopy Health alliance in 2018. This award-winning hospital offers comprehensive medical services for patients at every life stage. Its new hospital pavilion, which contains a state-of-the-art birthing center and Level II NICU, opened in 2014.

Like Canopy Heath, Regional Medical Center is committed to human-centered, transparent healthcare. It strives for clinical excellence and superior patient experiences during every interaction. And the hospital believes that educated patients and expecting parents make better healthcare decisions for their families.

Expectant Parents Can Learn About Childbirth Options, Breastfeeding, and Infant Care

As part of its commitment to San Jose and Santa Clara County, Regional Medical Center offers a wide variety of health-related classes, support groups, and informational sessions. Expecting parents can register for:

  • Childbirth Express: A one-day class that guides expectant parents through the labor and delivery process, childbirth coaching, breathing and relaxation techniques, medication and anesthesia options, and post-partum recovery.
  • Childbirth Preparation: A five-week class that teaches expectant parents about prenatal care, labor and delivery, the importance of a childbirth coach, breathing and relaxation techniques, and various childbirth options. The hospital offers this program in English and Vietnamese.
  • Infant Care: A one-day class that teaches new parents the basics of caring for a newborn.
  • Prenatal Breastfeeding: Learn about the importance of breastfeeding, proper positioning techniques, pumping and milk storage, weaning, and other issues.

New and expecting mothers and fathers are encouraged to attend all classes, which are free for people who pre-register for delivery at Regional Medical Center of San Jose. Simply call Regional Medical Center at 888-762-8881 to pre-register and schedule your free childbirth and infant care classes! You can also pre-register for labor and delivery online.

Regional Medical Center’s Family Birthing Center Is Family-Focused and Technologically-Advanced

Regional Medical Center’s Family Birthing Center offers modern and spacious LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Post-Partum) rooms for expecting families. Rather than move from one space to another, a pregnant mother and her spouse or partner can stay in one location throughout the entire birthing and post-partum process. Families also benefit from access to 24/7 on-site obstetricians, pediatricians, neonatologists, specially-trained nurses, and a multilingual team.

The hospital offers family-centered or couplet care, keeping mothers and newborns together as much as possible. Studies suggest that couplet care provides better health outcomes and encourages breastfeeding success. And when a newborn has special needs, Regional Medical Center’s Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is ready and waiting to help. Unlike some NICU’s, it is open 24/7, giving new parents time to bond with their newborn.

Alongside its labor and delivery services, the hospital offers a wide variety of women’s health treatment options. This includes infertility treatment, hormone replacement surgery, gynecologic surgeries, and pelvic health care. In 2017, HealthGrades awarded Regional Medical Center Five-Star ratings for their gynecologic surgery and hysterectomy programs. Minimally invasive surgeries are also available.
